With Scott’s help, I have successfully undergone and recovered from a hip replacement, beating my personal record in deadlift and back squat, as well as being more fit than I have been in years.

I have always been a physically active person, and at times a competitive athlete, relying on sport and training of various kinds to bring a certain joy and calmness to my being. Hence, I was dismayed at my aging body and progressive osteoarthritis that threatened to rob me of this essential part of my life.

A little more than 4 years ago, I began training with Scott, initially to augment a more clinical approach to my joint pain. What I learned however, is the extraordinary power of high-quality athletic training to not only improve strength and fitness, but also to improve function and decrease pain in my everyday life.

Scott brings a seemingly endless menu of training techniques to his work, allowing him to seamlessly substitute movements or exercises in real time based on wherever my body is at on any given day, and what my current fitness goals are. Scott trains me using the CrossFit model, which matches my personality and athletic style, and adapts techniques accordingly so I always feel like I am moving forward even if there are some exercises or movements that I am unable to do because of my arthritis (box jumps anyone?). With this approach, I do not focus on my limitations, but rather what I am capable of doing and the progress I make.

We set realistic goals, but I have so far surpassed what I ever thought I was capable of; Scott has confidence in me, and I have trust in him. He challenges me, but never has presented me with a metcon I couldn’t beat. He is an outstanding listener, and uses his extensive experience and camaraderie to motivate me to succeed through even my worst training days. He has an uncanny sense of intuition, and often can tell if something is off with me even before I have been able to articulate it. His mastery of anatomy and kinesiology and ability to use deep pressure and muscular release techniques has allowed me to avoid numerous medical visits and extended the functionality of my defective joints to their max.

With Scott’s help, I have successfully undergone and recovered from a hip replacement, beating my personal record in deadlift and back squat, as well as being more fit than I have been in years. I have been able to enjoy and progress in my primary sport, karate, achieving my 3rd degree black belt. Currently, we are working on “pre-hab”, the essential period of preparation for surgery, working toward my bilateral knee replacement one month from now.

I can’t imagine my life without Scott providing his extraordinary coaching, training, expertise and friendship.
